History of the Lonsdale Quay and Lower Lonsdale Shipyards

Lonsdale Quay was opened many years ago in 1977 as the Seabus began connecting North Vancouver to downtown Vancouver through Burrard Inlet and Waterfront Station. Since then the area has developed over time to what it is today. Lower Lonsdale was a blue collar working class neighbourhood and is the oldest neighbourhood on the North Shore. The Shipyards area was where ships for World War 2 were built and after that a commercial ship building and repair dock took its place.
